One of the most meaningful moments in the life of any Knights of Columbus council is the ceremonial passing of the gavel from one Grand Knight to another. This symbolic act represents not merely a change in office but the continuation of a legacy of faith, fraternity, and service.
At the conclusion of the Mother Seton Council’s meeting held last Tuesday, members witnessed this important tradition as the outgoing Grand Knight, Professor C. Nwokeafor, formally handed over the gavel to the incoming Grand Knight, Sir Ephraim Eke.
The gavel is more than a ceremonial instrument. Throughout the Knights of Columbus, it serves as a symbol of authority, responsibility, and stewardship. When a Grand Knight passes the gavel to his successor, he entrusts the leadership of the council to another brother knight who will guide its activities, uphold its values, and advance its mission.
This handover reflects a practice observed in councils worldwide. Each Grand Knight builds upon the work of those who came before him, ensuring that the council remains active in charitable works, supports the Church, strengthens family life, and promotes unity among its members. The smooth transition of leadership demonstrates the Order’s enduring strength and its commitment to servant leadership.
During his tenure, Professor C. Nwokeafor provided dedicated leadership and service to the Mother Seton Council 5381. His efforts contributed to the growth and continued vitality of the council, and the brethren remain grateful for his commitment and sacrifices.
As Sir Ephraim Eke assumes the office of Grand Knight, he inherits both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with leading the council. Supported by his fellow officers and members, he now begins a new chapter in the council’s history, carrying forward the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism that define the Knights of Columbus.
The ceremony served as a reminder that while individual leaders may change, the mission of the Knights of Columbus remains constant. Through successive generations of leadership, councils continue to serve their parishes, communities, and the Church with dedication and faith.
The Mother Seton Council 5381 congratulates both leaders—Professor C. Nwokeafor for his distinguished service as outgoing Grand Knight and Sir Ephraim Eke on his installation as the new Grand Knight.
May God bless their efforts and continue to guide the Mother Seton Council in its mission of service.
Congratulations, brothers all.
